Indonesia's liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production has declined by some 20 percent due to problems in refineries in the East Kalimantan town of Balikpapan and the Central Java town of Cilacap which have delayed supplies to Jakarta.
"The LPG production is declining and the two refineries have delayed their supplies in significant amounts," Marketing Director of Pertamina Arie Soemarno said here Thursday.
To handle the problem, the state-run company has planned to import some 5,000 to 6,000 tons of LPG from Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, Arie was quoted by the Antara news agency as saying.
Pertamina is maximizing its production from the Balongan refinery in West Java, which so far has been a main LPG supplier.
Balongan, which previously only supplies LPG to Jakarta, West and Central Java, would also supply the commodity to East Java.
