Chongqing consumer market robust in first eight monthsThe total retail sales of consumer products in southwest China's Chongqing municipality climbed 13.6 percent to 69.11 billion yuan (8.5 billion US dollars) in the first eight months of this year, according to the municipal bureau of statistics. The figure breaks down into 49.82 billion yuan (6.14 billion US dollars) in cities and towns, and 19.29 billion yuan (2.38 billion US dollars) in rural areas, up 14 percent and 12.4 percent respectively year-on-year. Wholesale and retail sales added up to 59.48 billion yuan (7.33 billion US dollars), up 13.3 percent over the same period of last year, while food and beverage sales stood at 8.95 billion yuan (1.1 billion US dollars), up 15.8 percent.
