A new 24-meters-long air bridge designed for small aircraft has been commissioned at Hong Kong International Airport Thursday.

It accommodates A319, A320, A321 and B737 aircraft, which constitute a quarter of passenger planes catering to the Chinese mainland and regional routes.

Airport Authority chief David Pang and guests opened the new glass-walled air bridge that will cater to small aircraft.

He said China's burgeoning economy has boosted demand for air traffic between Hong Kong and the mainland.

"To capture the enormous growth opportunities presented to Hong Kong, we have been working closely with our business partners in enhancing customer services and airport facilities," Pang said.

Construction launched last October. The glass panels on both sides of the air bridge give passengers a new airport experience, offering a pleasant view of the apron while embarking or disembarking.
