Import quota for sugar tops 1.94 million tons

Chinese Ministry of Commerce has announced the import quotas for sugar, wool and strip, conditions of application and the principle of allocation.

The sugar quota for 2006 is 1.945 million. State-owned companies are allocated 70 percent of the quota.

The quotas for wool and strip are 287, 000 tons and 80, 000 tons respectively.

The sugar import quota in 2006 will be allocated according to the performance of the applicant enterprises in the pervious year, their production capability, sales and other relevant criteria. The application period is from October 15 to 30, 2005.
