At least 13 Indian security personnel, belonging to local police and Indian central paramilitary forces, were killed and 10 others injured in a blast triggered by guerrillas in Chatra district of Jharkhand in north India Saturday morning, Indo-Asian News Service reported.

The bomb, which was kept in a container, went off when Indian security personnel tried to open it.

According to G.S Rath, additional director general of police ( special branch), the blast took place near Baniadih village, about 270 km from Ranchi, capital of Jharkhand at 8.30 a.m.

Nearly 25 security men were on long-range patrolling in five vehicles when the incident occurred.

Guerrillas are active in 16 of the 22 districts of the pradesh. Nearly 540 persons including 220 policemen have been killed since creation of the pradesh in November 2000.
