WFP to provide 90 mln USD for tsunami victims in Aceh

The World Food Program (WFP) will provide 90 million US dollars funds to finance a food program in 2006 and 2007 for 500,000 victims of tsunami disaster in Indonesia's Aceh province, the Bisnis Indonesia reported Saturday.

"Currently there are about 500,000 people living in a temporary settlement, they continuously need aids until they can leave the places," the leading economic daily quoted Mohammed Saleheen, Country Representatives Director of the United Nation WFP, as saying.

He said the funds would also be allocated to school children affected by the tsunami on Dec. 26 last year that killed over 220,000 people and swept aside coastal areas of the province.

The catastrophe has made over a half million Acehneses homeless and living in internally displaced camps.
