Although there have appeared some problems in the tourism golden week system, from the present conditions, the system should be adhered to, said Zhang Xiqin, the deputy director with China's National Tourism Administration (CNTA), at a tourism information conference on October 1 National Day Golden Week held by the CNTA on Saturday, according to Beijing News.

It is reported the golden week statistics show that there were 171 complaints received, down 59 percent in comparison with the same period of last year.

Zhang Xiqin introduced there have been some voices questioning the golden week system since there appeared some problems in the system.

Some suggested the cancellation of the week based on the intensity of tourism demand and supply.

Some even advocated holiday with pay instead of the golden week system.

Nevertheless, a survey shows 64 percent of responders believe that the positive effects of the golden week system overweigh the negative effects. In addition, the system has become an indispensable component to people's life in China. Therewith, the State Holiday Office believes that China should continuously adhere to the system.

CNTA briefed evident problems existed in the system.

First of all, there will be a long-term existence of partial intense supply and demand. From the past 15 golden weeks, the supply and demand contradictions were mainly focused on transportation and scenic areas. Supply and demand conflicts were obvious for civil aviation, railway and highway during travelers' outgoing and return periods, constituting the bottlenecks for the tourism week.

It is learned that during the October 1 National Day period this year, there were 111 million tourists nationwide, up 10.5 percent year-on-year with ticket income reaching 518 million yuan.

In complaining field, complaints to travel agencies ranked top, reaching 58, a decrease of 50 percent over the same period of last year. The main problems include failing to implement contracts completely, such as forced charges and taking liberty to combine travel groups.
