China-ASEAN Free Trade Zone is a mechanism formed on the basis of exerting advantages of both sides, achieving mutual benefit and a win-win result. By 2006 zero tariff will be realized for about 600 types of agriculture products in China and ASEAN, which is beneficial to adjustment of agriculture structure in the two sides, and provides more choices for consumers in China and ASEAN countries, noted Fu Ziying, Assistant to Commerce Minister.
Fu said China and ASEAN launched a plan to cut tariffs not long ago, according to which 7,000 kinds of agricultural products are given preferential tariff treatment. The implementation of the tariff-cutting plan will inevitably impose certain influence on certain agricultural products produced in certain regions in China. However as a vast country, China produces many agricultural and aquatic products that ASEAN doesn't produce. Therefore cutting tariffs may have some influence on agricultural production in certain regions, but the overall influence is not so big.
