Tourism over the seven-day National Day vacation, the 15th so-called "golden week", has generated 46.3 billion yuan of revenue, up 16.6 percent year-on year, from 111 million visits which increased by 10.5 percent over the same period of last year.
This data from the National Bureau of Statistic and the National Tourism Administration is reported by today's People's Daily.
Zhang Xiqin, executive officer for the National Day "golden week" under the national holiday office, said that safety, traveling order, and service quality were all improved significantly during the "golden week". He also confirmed that the number of tourists hit a new high and tourism revenue soared.
Specifically, out of the 111 million visits, 28.58 million were made by transit passengers, which was 7.6 percent higher than the same period of last year. There were 82.84 million one-day visits in China, which rose 11.5 percent.
The civil aviation operators scooped 2.45 billion yuan from passenger services, rising 32.4 percent. Visitors taking railway brought 1.23 billion revenue to their service provider, jumping 7.9 percent.
1.18 billion visits for the 15 "golden weeks" have generated tourism revenue of 475.5 billion yuan. The National Day vacation this year saw doubled number of tourists and tourism revenue over that in 2000.
