Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas will meet US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Welch in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Monday, Palestinian official sources said.

The meeting is to prepare for the summit between Abbas and US President George W. Bush in Washington scheduled for Oct. 20.

In addition, Welch is also scheduled to hold meetings with Israeli officials to push forward the long-stalled peace process and activate the roadmap peace plan.
