Former US vice president says developed countries should do more to protect environment
font size

Former US vice president Al Gore said in Beijing Monday developed countries should shoulder more responsibility in protecting the environment of the earth.

In his key-note speech made on Monday in China's prestigious Tsinghua University, Gore presented lots of pictures and diagrams to show the destruction brought by humankind to the world environment.

He called for students to make concerted efforts to protect the environment of the whole world.

When asked to comment on the United States' refusal on signing the Kyodo Protocol, Gore said the developed countries should bear more responsibility in protecting environment.

Gore served as vice president from 1992 to 2001. He lost the 2000 US presidential elections to Republican George W. Bush.

Gore's speech is the first one of a Tsinghua forum designed to help encourage student innovation. The forum will be held about four times a year, and covers various areas such as technology, the economy, culture and ecology.
