King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej has sent condolences to the leaders of Pakistan and India following the deadly earthquake in the two countries over the weekend that killed thousands of people, local press reported Tuesday.

"It is with profound sadness that I have learned of the heavy loss of lives and severe damage sustained by your country and the people of Pakistan from the terrible earthquake. I wish to express to you and through you to the Pakistani people our heartfelt condolences and sincere sympathies for this great loss," the Bangkok Post quoted the royal message directed to Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf on Monday as saying.

In a message to Indian President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the King said: "I would like to express my sincere condolences and sympathies to the bereaved families and also wish the injured a speedy and safe recovery."

Some 100,000 US dollars has been pledged by the Thai government to assist victims in tremor-ravaged region of Pakistan.

On Thursday, the prime minister's adviser Wan Muhamad Nor Matha will travel to Pakistan to deliver relief supplies to quake victims. People have been encouraged to donate aid kits and goods, which will be taken to Pakistan by the air force.

Saturday's earthquake, registering 7.6 on the Richter scale, has killed more than 30,000 people in Pakistan, and injuring another 60,000, according to a Pakistan senior official.
