China will hold a series of activities to mark the 60th anniversary of recovering sovereignty over Taiwan after Japan's 50-year-long colonial rule, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council Li Weiyi said in Beijing Thursday.
During the 50-year Japanese colonial rule, compatriots in Taiwan joined hands with people on the Chinese mainland to fight against Japanese aggression, making indelible contributions to safeguarding China's national sovereignty and territorial integrity, Li said at a regular news briefing on Thursday.
The activities will be organized by relevant central governments to commemorate the brilliant achievements jointly made by compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits in resisting Japanese aggression in wartime, carry forward the brave spirit of Chinese nation, build a peaceful and stable cross-strait relationship and accelerate the pace of peaceful reunification of the motherland, Li said.
The activities include a ceremony to be held in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on October 25, a cultural performance and an exhibition, which will also be held in Beijing. A documentary featuring Taiwan compatriots' fight against Japanese aggression will be shown on CCTV in late October.
