Tsang's policy address hailed by HK newspapersThe policy address delivered Wednesday by Donald Tsang Yam-kuen, chief executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), was widely eulogized by local newspapers Thursday. Many newspapers printed the main points of the address, and devoted pages to discussing and commenting on the maiden policy address of Tsang. The editorial of Wen Wei Po, one of the leading local Chinese newspapers, said the chief executive has displayed creativity in strengthening the governance. The address also echoed the expectations of all walks of social lives, said the Wen Wei Po editorial. It described the address as having practically sketched the blueprint for the region's economic development. Tsang did not hustle his thoughts in general, said the editorial, adding that he instead detailed what he could and would do for the public. The editorial said Tsang is faced a comparatively pleasant administrative environment as the economy is bouncing back and financial deficit is dropping. Tsang will counter the difficulties and take his political responsibility, it said. The Hong Kong Commercial Daily said in its editorial that Tsang 's policy address has triggered positive responses from the Hong Kong community. The editorial praised the address for its focusing on the people-based governance. It said the address covered the main themes as improving governance, harmony in community and prerequisites for needed economic policies to be devised and implemented. The editorial noted that the address has outlined measures relating to the environmental protection, closer cooperation with the Chinese mainland, studying how to improve Hong Kong's competition policy and expanding opportunities in the financial service. It expressed the wish that the measures proposed by the chief executive will hopefully usher Hong Kong in a more promising future. South China Morning Post, the leading local English newspaper, headlined Tsang's policy address on the frontpage, dubbing it " heralding a new beginning" for Hong Kong. The frontpage article described Tsang's address as instilling a sense of history as he outlined his strategy and plans for taking Hong Kong on a new road.
