Five teacher training colleges in Zambia Thursday received 52 computers and software valued at 500 million kwacha (about 100,000 US dollars) donated by the United States government through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
USAID Mission Director James Bednar said the information and communication technology would enable future teachers to learn how to access resources online and would strengthen teaching capacities, adding the computers donated thus would give them more opportunities to learn knowledge they need.
The donation is part of broader collaboration between USAID and the Ministry of Education aimed at improving children's access to schools, assisting the ministry in collecting and managing information and supporting school health initiatives, according to USAID.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education Lilian Kapulu said colleges of education in Zambia currently have little IT accessibility and college lecturers have limited computer skills.
