Mayors from more than 120 cities on Thursday appealed in a declaration to reaching harmony between cities, man and nature.
In the Chongqing Declaration published at the on-going Asia Pacific Cities Summit, which kicked off in southwest China's Chongqing municipality Wednesday morning, mayors urged promoting the sustainable development of cities.
The declaration appeals all cities to draw far-sighted urban layout and to build shared information network, as well as to respect each other's different development modes.
It also appeals to all cites to better protect historic and cultural relics as to preserve cultural diversity.
It highlights the importance of residential communities in urban areas, saying all the cities should further improve community facilities in a bid to better serve the residents and then forge harmonious interpersonal relations.
The declaration also calls for a balance between nature, economy and society. Concrete methods discussed include building energy-saving cities and developing environment-friendly and recyclable resources.
The mayors reiterated in the declaration to seek free trade and oppose trade barriers in any form.
They also vowed to provide more jobs and education opportunities as well as better health and medical services. More attention will be paid to social security, public sanitation and food safety.
Over 900 delegates from 41 countries and regions were present at the three-day summit in Chongqing.
