US Treasury Secretary John Snow said Friday he hoped cooperation between China's civil pilot school and U.S. training plane providers would continue.

Snow arrived in Chengdu, capital city of China's southwest Sichuan Province, on the evening of October 12, kicking off his three-day visit in the hub of China's Western Development.

The Guanghan Civil Pilot Institute was a former training field for US bombers, who helped China fight against the Japanese aggression during the second world war.

"You have chosen a great school and a brilliant career. Now I have seen the bright future of China's aviation, " Snow told the students.

The rapid increase of tourism in China and in Sichuan had given a boost to civil aviation. He hoped that the cooperation between the school and the US equipment providers could continue, Snow said.

Knowing that the school would buy more training planes, Snow said that the current training planes were among the best US training aircraft.

The pilot school has bought 29 US training and simulation planes, at a cost of more than 60 million US dollars. The school plans to buy 50 more planes next year.

Snow kicked off his China visit in Shanghai on Oct. 11. He is scheduled to attend the meeting of the G-20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors, which will convene in Beijing from October 15 to 16.

Snow and his Chinese counterpart Jin Renqing will co-chair the 17th meeting of the Sino-US Joint Economic Commission on the afternoon of October 16.
