Li Keqiang, secretary of the Communist Party of China's Liaoning Provincial Committee, met with Honorary Chairman of Kuomintang Lien Chan from Taiwan in Shenyang Friday evening.

During the meeting, Li briefed Lien on the general conditions of this northeast China province and the trade and economic exchanges between Liaoning and Taiwan.

Currently, about 5000 people from Taiwan are permanent residents in Liaoning and more than 40,000 Taiwanese visit the province as tourists or on business every year, said Li.

Lien said his visit to Liaoning this time is to fulfill the wish of his 97-year-old mother, who wanted to pay a visit to her hometown but could not come due to her health condition.

Both Li and Lien expressed their hopes for people across the Taiwan Strait to join hands for further development.

At the end of the meeting, the two sides exchanged gifts and souvenirs.
