China will work with Malta to continuously push bilateral friendship and cooperation to new levels, said a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in Beijing Friday.

Wu Guanzheng, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks at a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister and deputy leader of the Nationalist Party (NP) of Malta Tonio Borg,

Wu, also secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, pointed to the sound and smooth growth of bilateral relations since the two countries forged diplomatic ties over three decades ago.

In recent years, he noted, the two countries have made more and more new achievements in cooperation in such fields as politics, economy, culture, education and tourism, and they have also maintained close communication and cooperation in international affairs.

Wu extended his appreciation for Malta's consistent support for China in its pursuit of reunification with Taiwan and its consistent support on Tibet issue.

Wu said the CPC attaches great importance to friendly relations with the Maltese NP, and will strengthen dialogue and cooperation with all friendly political parties of Malta to jointly push forward the development of bilateral relations.

Borg said the two countries can learn from each other as they are faced with many common challenges during development, and he expressed his conviction this visit will further promote the development of friendship and cooperation between the two parties and the two countries.
