The Israeli High Court of Justice on Sunday accepted a state petition to cancel a temporary injunction preventing construction of the separation wall north of Jerusalem, the Ha'aretz daily reported.
Nine justices, headed by Supreme Court President Aharon Barak, accepted the state's statement that "there is an urgent security need to complete the creation of the fence in this area in order to prevent the entry of terrorists into the State of Israel."
In its petition, the state said sections of the barrier running through the neighborhood were a necessary section of the fence around Jerusalem.
The judges also accepted the state's contention that a wall, rather than a fence, should be built in the area, since "the fence erected in the urban area would be expected to be dismantled in a short time."
The wall is intended to cut across the northern section of the neighborhood, and in some areas will cut through yards of private homes.
The court said their comprehensive ruling on the fate of the Jerusalem-area separation wall as a whole will be announced in the near future.
