Overseas Chinese in Myanmar criticize visit of Koizumi to war shrine
font size

Leaders of some overseas Chinese associations in Myanmar expressed indignation Monday over Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's repeated visit to the Yasukuni Shrine earlier on the day.

In an interview with Xinhua, these leaders criticized Koizumi for ignoring the history of Japanese war of aggression, hurting once again the sentiment of the Chinese people as well as other Asian people who were once victims of the war.

The facility enshrines 14 Class-A World War II war criminals as well as about 2 million Japanese war dead.

One of the leaders stressed that history cannot be forgotten and bear no distortion.

The leaders urged the Japanese government to give up such wrong stance, calling on the Chinese people as well as people across the world to keep vigilance against the revival of the Japanese right-wing forces.
