China can be stimulus in Asia's development

The progress of China would not endanger other countries in Asia, but a stimulus for them to jointly move forward in the field of economy and politics, an Indonesian expert said in Jakarta Monday.

An expert from the Program of Chinese Studies of the Indonesian University, Tuty N. Muas, told Xinhua in an interview that China's fast growing economy would help the economic development in the region by reducing the countries' dependency on the Western economy.

"China can be a stimulus for the Asian region," she said.

But, the expert also refused the possibility of dependency of Asian countries on the Chinese economy since there were also some other developed countries in the region, such as Japan and Australia.

Regarding to accusation of some western countries on the possibility of China becoming a great nation that could endanger other countries, she said, "I don't think so." And China must prove that was not true, China must still commit with its goal in the region.

She said that China has a mission to create peace and mutual understanding among countries in the region.

Tuty also refuted the possibility of China becoming a superpower. "The dependency among countries will be higher, so the tendency toward emerging a superpower weakens," she stressed.

She said that she was optimistic that China's goal of development in more humanitarian and environmental ways can be achieved.

The successful launching of the second manned spacecraft by China on Oct. 12 indicated the maturity of the country as a nation, which become a good example, she said.

She asserted that the well planned and implemented development blue-print in China would push the country forward to achieve its goal of creating peace and harmony in the region.
