Chinese President Hu Jintao held talks with Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, president of Equatorial Guinea here on Thursday.

The two sides hailed bilateral relations and vowed to enhance economic cooperation.

Sinno-Equatorial Guinean relations have witnessed sound progress in the past 35 years since the two countries forged diplomatic ties in 1970, along with fruitful cooperation in culture, education and health-care sectors, Hu said.

"We appreciate that the government of Equatorial Guinea adheres to the the one-China stance and supports China's peaceful reunification," said Hu.

The Chinese president suggested the two countries maintain high-level exchanges of visits, strengthen cooperation between parties and the two parliaments, and promote trade and economic cooperation, especially in infrastructure development, oil and gas exploration, agriculture, forestry and fishery.

Hu Jintao also opined that the two sides can further expand cooperation in culture, education, sanitation, human resources and on the UN reform, development issues and poverty relief.

Obiang said that Equatorial Guinea is satisfied with the smooth progress made in its relations with China and appreciates support from the Chinese government and people to its safeguarding of national sovereignty, independence and economic building.

He also spoke highly of the positive role played by China in international affairs, saying that Equatorial Guinea will further increase cooperation with China in economic and scientific fields and natural resources exploration.

Obiang arrived here Wednesday afternoon for a six-day working visit to China as guest of Hu Jintao.

During his stay in Beijing, Obiang is also expected to meet with Premier Wen Jiabao.

Besides Beijing, he will then travel to Dalian, a major port city in northeast China's Liaoning Province, and Shanghai, China's economic hub in east China, during his fifth visit to China.
