A security director of Afghanistan's southern Nimroz province and one of his bodyguards were killed Thursday in a bomb explosion, and five others were injured, an Afghan official said Friday.
"The security director of the police department in Nimroz Haji Nafas Khan and two of his bodyguards were driving the car to the mosque to pray at about 7:30 p.m. when they suddenly met a remote- controlled bomb explosion of another car parking in the street," Yosuf Stanikzai, spokesperson of the Interior Ministry, told Xinhua.
"The security director and one of his bodyguards were killed, and another bodyguard and four passersby were injured," he added.
The spokesperson condemned the "enemies of Afghanistan," the term using for Taliban militants, to make this terrorist attack, and said the investigation has been carried out.
Taliban militants, after failing to derail the landmark Sept. 18 parliamentary elections, have intensified the attacks against Afghan and foreign troops, and announced anyone working for foreign countries would become their target.
More than 1,400 people including rebels, Afghan and pro- government religious leaders as well as US troops have been killed in Taliban-led militancy since the beginning of this year.
