China will work with Micronesia to enhance high-level exchanges, political trust and mutual cooperation, and promote the long-term and steady growth of bilateral ties, said top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo Friday in Beijing.
Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, made the remarks at a meeting with Peter Christian, speaker of the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia.
Wu pointed to the rapid growth of bilateral relations, increasing exchanges in various fields and at various levels, expanded economic and trade cooperation and sound communication and coordination in international and regional organizations in the past 16 years of bilateral diplomatic ties.
He said the NPC attaches importance to friendly relations with the Micronesian counterpart and wants to strengthen exchanges in legislative supervision.
Wu voiced his appreciation for Micronesia's one-China policy.
Christian said the Micronesian government and parliament adhere to the one-China policy and Micronesia will, as always, advance friendship and cooperation with China.
He said he hoped that this visit will help further promote bilateral relations.
