Chinese state councilor meets Russian guests

Sino-Russian strategic security talks are significant for increasing political trust between the two sides, said Chinese State Councilor Zhou Yongkang Friday in Beijing.

Zhou made the remarks at a meeting with visiting Russian Secretary of Security Council Igor Ivanov. Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan and Ivanov held the Second Round of Sino-Russian Strategic Security Talks here Thursday.

Zhou said the mechanism of China-Russia strategic security talks, initiated under the joint efforts of both sides in February this year, is significantly important for the two nations to enhance political trust and cooperation in various fields, especially in the law enforcement and security fields.

China is ready to work with Russia within the framework of the strategic security talks mechanism, to promote bilateral cooperation in anti-terrorism, combating transnational crimes, banning drug and frontier defense affairs, said Zhou, hoping that the two sides would implement the consensus reached by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, safeguard security and stability of both sides and of the region, and push forward the healthy development of exchanges in various fields.

Ivanov said to further strengthen the Russia-China consultations on strategic security accords with the common interests of both sides.

Russia is willing to keep coordination and dialogue with China in major issues, and to step up cooperation in the law enforcement and security fields in a bid to promote bilateral strategic cooperative partnership, he said.
