font size

With a score by Pu Wei, Shanghai defeated host Jiangsu 1-0 to take the women's soccer bronze at the 10th National Games Saturday in Nanjing.

With thousands of slogan-chanting supporters, Jiangsu squad took every possibility to attack the visitors' goal but couldn't score due to the weak performance of its forwards.

Shanghai, which had been considered a title favorite for the championship but was defeated by Beijing in the semifinal in penalty shoot-out, controlled the match.

Attacking midfielder Pu Wei, also team captain, scored a goal in the penalty area in the 15th minute, sealing the visitors' win.

In the final to be held later Saturday, Beijing will meet Liaoning.
