China plans to import 894,000 tons of cotton in the year 2006, according to sources from the National Development and Reform Commission and China Cotton and Textile Industry Association.

The commission will grant the quotas to concerned enterprises and trading firms through authoritative institutions on Jan. 1 next year.

But 33 percent of the quotas will be given to the state-owned trading firms.
