font size

Seven people were killed and eight injured when a van and a pickup collided on a rural road in north province of Sukhothai of Thailand Saturday morning, according to local news paper The Nation Sunday.

The accident took place at the four-lane bypass junction that links Srisamrong and Muang districts.

Srisamrong police reported that the Toyota van had a Chiang Mai registration plate and had been traveling from Lamphun and the Nissan pickup truck had a Sukhothai registration plate.

Initial investigations have determined that the Toyota van was heading to Chiang Mai when the Nissan truck apparently approached at high speed from the left side of the intersection and hit the van.

Both vehicles turned over several times, and five passengers were thrown from them and died at the scene. Two more bodies were found inside the van and in the pickup's front seat.
