Thai gov't issues new regulations to control bird flu
font size

Thai Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan has signed two new ministerial orders designed for controlling avian influenza in 21 provinces nationwide, reported the Thai News Agency Sunday.

The two orders were signed Saturday. The first regulation forbids farmers to raise poultry in areas designated as risky or monitored within 10 km of where the disease has been found and within 90 days after the last bird was destroyed.

The second measure prevents transfer of poultry 90 days from areas where the disease has occurred without approval of the Department of Livestock Development.

The measures also require a close monitoring of the disease in 21 provinces nationwide between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, with reports of dead poultry being updated on a daily basis.

Anti-virus disinfectants must be sprayed in the 21 provinces once every two weeks.
