Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan put forward a three-point proposal in Beijing Monday on strengthening China-UN cooperation at a reception held to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.

China will promote the UN's adherence to multi-lateralism and the accomplishment of common security; promote the UN's advocation of beneficial cooperation and common prosperity; and promote the UN's advancement with the times and improvement through reforms.

"During the past 60 years, the purposes and principles of the UN Charter have evolved into the basic norms governing international relations and the UN, for its part, has also traversed an extraordinary path, withstood severe tests, and overcome hardship with flying colors," Tang said.

He recalled that the UN Summit in September held in New York was successful and concluded with the adoption of the Outcome Document, in which leaders reiterated their confidence in the UN and their commitment to the UN Charter.

"This Outcome Document is a programmatic plan providing guidelines and orientation for the future work and development of the world organ," Tang stressed.

He quoted Chinese President Hu Jintao, who attended the UN Summit, as saying that China will continue to abide by the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, take an active part in international affairs and fulfill its international obligations.

UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan also sent a letter of congratulation to the reception, highlighting the cooperative ties between the UN and China, pledging that the UN will further relations and cooperation with China and help China realize its goal of building a well-off society.
