Russia-China ties at historical high, deputy FM

The strategic partnership with China is a priority of Russia's foreign policy and ties between the two countries are at a historical high, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Alekseyev said Monday.

"The relations of strategic partnership have been established between Russia and China. They are not subject to circumstantial changes and are a priority direction of Russia's foreign policy," Alekseyev said in an interview with the Itar-Tass news agency.

The two countries have reached "a new, extremely high level of mutual trust and understanding," Alekseyev said.

"Russia and China are experiencing the most favorable period in the history of their relations," he said.

Moscow and Beijing are engaged in a constant political dialogue at all levels and have set up a unique mechanism of interaction, the official said.

Top Chinese and Russian leaders have met three times so far this year and are scheduled to meet a fourth time later, and Russia's prime minister and China's premier would also hold the 10th regular meeting, Alekseyev said.

"With the completion of border demarcation between Russia and China, no problems could seriously complicate the development of the strategic partnership at present," he said, adding that the focus of the top-level dialogue is being shifted to matters of mutually beneficial cooperation in the interests of the two peoples.
