Google appointed Johnny Chou as chief for the marketing and business operation in greater China area, said the Beijing Times today. Chou was chief operation officer with UTStarcom.

Chou's remarkable track record in the telecommunication business matches Google's needs for a right person for its marketing under the pressure of competition from Baidu and its own business expansion strategy. He will be responsible for Google's sales and distribution operation and expanding Google's partnership in China.
