The world's largest tea wholesale market has opened at Maliandao, a street known for tea business in the Xuanwu District in the southern part of Beijing, the China Quality Daily has reported.

The wholesale market, located at the southern end of the street, covers an area of 80,000 sq meters. It can host nearly 1,000 tea stores, which will open round-the-clock, the report said.

The market is reportedly the largest of its kind both in China and the rest of the world.

Maliandao is the most important tea collecting and distributing center in North China. Currently, the annual trade of tea in Maliandao exceeds 1.5 billion yuan (about 185 million US dollars).
