China will join efforts with Belarus to advance the all-round friendly bilateral relationship of cooperation to a new stage, a senior Chinese party official said in Beijing Wednesday.

Wu Guanzheng, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), made the remarks at a meeting with Viktor Sheyman, director of the Presidential Office of Belarus.

Wu, also secretary of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, said expanding a long-term, stable, all-round and friendly relationship based on deep trust and mutually beneficial cooperation is in the common interest of the two countries and two peoples.

After recalling his visit to Belarus in September, 2004, Wu said the peoples of the two countries share traditional friendship. Since the two countries established diplomatic relations more than 10 years ago, bilateral cooperation in such fields as politics, economy, trade, science, technology, culture and education have been fruitful, Wu said.

Wu thanked Belarus for its consistent support to China on such issues as Taiwan, Tibet and human rights.

Sheyman said Belarus attaches top priority in its foreign policy to the development of all-round, friendly relationship of cooperation with China. Over the past few years, Belarus and China have continuously strengthened cooperation in such fields as politics, economy, trade, science and technology. Both countries have maintained the same or similar stance on many major international and regional issues, he said.

Sheyman said Belarus is willing to become a long-term and stable partner of friendly cooperation with China. He said Belarus is ready to further strengthen exchanges with China so as to continuously push forward bilateral relations.
