China will continue to promote cooperation with Serbia and Montenegro in various fields to benefit two peoples according to the principles of mutual benefit, equality, and mutual benefit, Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan said in Beijing Wednesday.

Tang made the remark in a meeting with visiting Foreign Minister of Serbia and Montenegro Vuk Draskovic.

Tang expressed his appreciation to the friendly policies upheld by the Serbia and Montenegro government, saying that the traditional friendship between Chinese, Serbian and Montenegran peoples has endured various tests posed by time and history.

"The friendship has also gained new impetus in the new situation," Tang added.

Vuk Draskovic said China is playing a more and more important role on the international stage and its economic growth not only benefits its own people, but is also conducive to world peace and stability.

He said Serbia and Montenegro attaches importance to the ties with China and will adhere to the one-China policy and push forward relations with China.
