China, Vietnam to further military relationship
font size

Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan said in Beijing Wednesday that China will join hands with Vietnam to promote the comprehensive development of the relations between the two nations and the two military forces.

Cao made the remarks during the talks with his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Van Tra, after which the two sides signed an agreement on joint navy patrolling in the Beibu Gulf.

In the talks, Cao exchanged views with Tra on issues of common concern, including the international and regional situation, the current relationship between the two countries and the two military forces.

Cao, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, said that as good neighbors, China and Vietnam have increased mutual political trust and enhanced military exchanges in recent years.

Noting that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Cao said China hopes the two sides can have closer military exchanges and greater mutual trust through cooperation in wider areas.

Tra said the continuous consolidation and development of bilateral relations is a common aspiration of the two peoples. It is in compliance with their interests and conducive to the peace and stability of the region and the world at large.

Zhang Dingfa, a member of the Central Military Commission and commander of the Navy of the People's Liberation Army (PLA), and Xiong Guangkai, deputy chief of General Staff of the PLA were also present at the talks.
