    Pakistan hands over former Taliban member to Afghanistan

Pakistan on Wednesday handed over ten former Taliban members, including Hakimi, to the Afghan government, sources said. Hakimi was arrested along with few other Taliban members earlier this month near Quetta.

    U.S. military deathtoll in Iraq reaches 2,000

    The New York Times issued on Oct. 26, 2005 publishes the second 1,000 pictures and names of the U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq. The number of US military deaths in Iraq reached 2,000 and other 150,000 wounded on Tuesday, two and a half years after the American invasion of the Middle East country in March 2003, according to figures and the latest casualties announced by the Pentagon.

The fourth conference of the Council of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) prime ministers opened here on Wednesday, with the focus of discussions on issues of anti-terrorism and economic cooperation between the SCO member states. Tsakhia Elbegdorj attended the conference for the first time as the observer.

    Monitoring stations nationwide take precautions against bird flu

Local authorities have culled 2,487 domestic birds within a 3-kilometre radius of the outbreak site. So far China has set up 192 flu monitoring stations nationwide and taken strict precautions against bird flu.
