font size

The world's top computer maker Dell Inc has had a management reshuffle of its China operations setting new aims in one of the world's fastest growing PC markets.

Foo Piau Phang has chosen to retire as president of Dell China, the firm announced yesterday.

David Miller, who has partnered with Foo since January in a joint leadership structure, will continue as president, directing Dell's business on the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong.

Foo, since joining Dell in 2001, managed to triple revenues of the China operations and turned Dell into the third-largest computer-systems company in China.

Dell is the most successful foreign PC maker in China. The market has long been dominated by local vendors Lenovo and Founder Technology.

Dell is also currently the top standards server maker in China in terms of shipment.

Foo has managed to double Dell's share of China's server market to 10 per cent over the past four years, the firm said.

Under Foo's leadership, China became the first strategic market outside the United States.
