PNG continues to adhere to one-China policy: officialPapua New Guinea (PNG) Foreign Minister Robbie Namaliu said in Port Moresby Thursday that his country will continue to adhere to the one-China policy. The foreign minister made the remarks in meeting with Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, who is here to attend the 17th Post-Forum Dialogue Partners Meeting following the 36th Pacific Islands Forum leaders meeting. In welcoming Yang and his delegation to the Dialogue Partners Meeting, Namaliu expressed his appreciation for China's active role in the South Pacific region and satisfaction with the smooth development of relations between PNG and China in recent years. He also thanked China for its unconditional assistance to his country. For his part, the Chinese deputy foreign minister congratulated the PNG government on its successful hosting of the Pacific Islands Forum meeting. Yang said relations between China and PNG have been developing very well, featuring frequent exchange of high-level visits and fast growing economic cooperation and two-way trade. He said that the Chinese and PNG economies are complementary to each other and expressed the hope for an expanded exchange and cooperation between the two countries in various fields on the basis of the principle of equality and mutual benefit. China is willing to further strengthen its cooperation with PNG in the United Nations, the Pacific Islands Forum and other major international and regional organizations for the world and regional stability and prosperity, he added.
