Beijing per capita GDP will reach 6,000 US dollars by the year 2010, said Beijing mayor Wang Qishan recently, when explaining the proposal for the 11th Five-year Planfor Economic and Social Development of Beijing.
Wang made the remarks at the tenth plenary of the Communist Party of China Beijing Municipal Ninth Committee, stating that Beijing faces eight tasks during the 2006-2010 period, which include implementation of creativity strategy, improving the overall modernization, reinforcing resources and environment work,building a harmonious society, and successfully hosting the 2008 Olympic Games.
Mei Song, vice president of the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, said the target of 6,000 US dollars per capita GDP in 2010 signals that the Beijing per capital GDP will reach the medium level of developed countries in 2010.
Mei also noted that the proposal raised for the first time thatenergy consumption will be reduced by a large margin, which is a very tough task for Beijing.
