Euro-zone unemployment rate down to 8.4 percent

The euro-zone's seasonally- adjusted unemployment rate stood at 8.4 percent in September 2005, compared to 8.5 percent in August, Eurostat said on Friday.

According to the European Union (EU) statistical office, the EU25 unemployment rate was 8.6 percent in September 2005, unchanged compared to August.

However, the euro-zone seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate was 8.8 in September 2004, while the EU25 unemployment rate was 9. 0 percent in September 2004.

Eurostat estimates that, in September 2005, 12.3 million men and women were unemployed in the euro-zone and 18.7 million in the EU25.
