Senior Chinese leader Jia Qinglin called for implementing the scientific concept of development to promote fast and healthy economic and social development in China's western region during his recent tour of northwest China's Gansu Province.
Jia, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, called for taking more vigorous measures to shift the economic and social development to the path of pursuing the all-round, coordinated and sustainable development with the interests of people above everything else.
During the tour from Nov. 7 to 9, Jia emphasized the importance of resolving the issues of farmers, agriculture and rural development, promoting conservation of resources, poverty relief, boosting economic development of regions inhabited by ethnic minorities and boosting independent innovation capability.
Jia, also chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), called on CPPCC organizations and united front organizations of various levels to play their due roles in western development.
