Chancellor of Oxford University Christopher Francis Patten said Friday in Hong Kong that Oxford will increase the number of scholarship to Chinese students.
Speaking at a book-signing promotion of his new book "Not Quite the Diplomat", Patten said he was "hugely impressed" by the quality of Chinese students, so he wished to have more of them study at the Oxford.
The university also plans to increase the study of China and help Chinese students, mostly postgraduates, to accomplish their doctorate, Patten said.
Another thing upon the Oxford agenda is to build good relationship with the best Hong Kong universities and Chinese mainland universities, Patten added.
Patten, the last Governor of Hong Kong who witnessed the return of Hong Kong to China's rule in 1997, is back to Hong Kong for a five-day book-signing promotional visit. His latest volume of memoirs, "Not Quite the Diplomat", pokes fun at the leaders he has dealt with in a political career that has spanned more than 30 years.
