Al-Qaida behind hotel blasts: Jordanian deputy PM
font size

Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister Marwan Moasher said on Saturday that Al-Qaida in Iraq was behind Wednesday's deadly bombing attacks in Amman.

"The investigation has shown that Al-Qaida was responsible for the attacks, specifically the men of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi," Moasher told reporters.

He said that three male suicide bombers loyal to Jordanian-born terrorist Zarqawi carried out the attacks, disputing an earlier Internet claim of responsibility by the group that there were a couple among the suicide bombers.

Moasher said the three bombers were non-Jordanian, but did not elaborate on their nationalities.

Three nearly simultaneous explosions ripped through Grand Hyatt,Radisson SAS and Days Inn hotels in downtown Amman Wednesday night, killing 57 people and wounding over 100.

Al-Qaida in Iraq, led by Zarqawi, claimed responsibility for the triple attacks in an Internet statement on Thursday, accusing Jordan of being the "backyard" of "the enemies."
