Five people were killed and six injured when about 1,000 militants attacked a jail at Jehanabad city of north India's Bihar Pradesh Sunday night, NDTV reported Monday.
The militants stormed the city at about 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, blasting bombs and opening fires on the jail and police station, the TV news said.
The militants had broken into the jail and released their members who were in prison, including a top leader named Ajay Kanu. They also kidnapped 20 people and seized 16 rifles and 800 cartridges.
During the chaos, about 341 prisoners had escaped, the local government said.
The police and security forces were deployed away from the city to north Bihar to maintain the security there, which left the chance for militants' attack.
