The overall plan for the 2010 Shanghai World Expo was debuted recently. The park area built across both banks of the Huangpu River will be integrated with float buses and an aerial transporter, a reporter with the People's Daily reported on November 12 in Shanghai.
Covering a planned area of 5.28 square kilometers, the 2010 Shanghai site is located at the both banks of the Huangpu River in the area of Nanpu-Lupu bridges. At the same time, an area of about 1.4-square-kilometer construction coordinative area neighboring the site will be used to enhance the coordination and integrity between the area space and environment, according to People's Daily on November 13.
The exposition area will have a layout of five sections of park, area, subdivisions, group and pavilion: Park: the area, including fenced area and area outside the fences, will cover an area of 3.93 square kilometers in Pudong and 1.35 square kilometers in Puxi.
Area: a 3.22-square-kilometer fenced area occupies a land of 2.49 square kilometers in Pudong and 0.73 kilometers in Puxi.
Subdivisions: a district covers five functional subdivisions with each having a land area of 60 hectares.
Groups: there are 12 exhibition hall groups with each group having a land area of about 10 hectares.
Pavilions: there are 26 show pavilions and each pavilion occupies an area of two to three hectares with a construction area of 20,000 to 25,000 square meters. Each pavilion can accommodate about 40 to 45 exhibition units and each unit has an area of about 500 square meters.
According to an estimation of 70 million visits to the exposition, the numbers will be 400,000, 600,000 and 800,000 respectively for the average, peak and the extreme volumes of reception. Shanghai will strengthen the transportation links between the site and its urban transport system by improving its traffic facilities, such as airports, railway, highway and long-distance bus stations.
