China is strongly opposed to a report US Commission on International Religious Freedom has published on China's policies on religion, said Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Liu Jianchao on Nov. 13, according the Ministry's website.

Liu said in order to strengthen mutual understanding between the religious circles of the two countries, China's State Administration for Religious Affairs invited repesentatives of US Commission on International Religious Freedom to visit China in August this year. During their visit, China arranged a number of meetings and visits according to the schedule set by two sides. The delegation expressed satisfaction over China's arrangement before they left China.

However, the Commission goes so far in its report as to ignore truth and reverse right and wrong, attacking and slandering China's religious situation and policies. China is strongly dissatisfied with and firmly opposed to it.

The spokesman added said the attitude and act of the United States is not conducive to the exchanges between the two countries in the field of religion.

The Chinese government protects its citizens' freedom of religious belief according to law and Chinese citizens enjoy the freedom of religious belief in accordance with law, which is an obvious fact to all.

Liu noted that China demands that the US Commission on International Religious Freedom respect truth and stop its interference in China's internal affairs making use of religion, and take more actions that will help the development of Sino-US relations.
