Chinese vice-premier arrives in Tunis for world information summit

The Chinese government delegation headed by Vice-Premier Huang Ju arrived in Tunis on Monday for the World Summit on the Information Society slated for Nov. 16-18.

The meeting, under the auspices of the UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, is expected to play a major role in bridging digital gaps between developed nations and the less developed, especially African countries.

The Chinese delegation also included Information Technology Industry Minister Wang Xudong, Vice-Minister of Commerce Yu Guangzhou and high-ranking executives of Chinese telecommunications giants Huawei and ZTE.

Huang is expected to deliver a speech on the development of China's telecommunications industry and its participation in the International Telecommunication Union at the summit.
