Chinese top legislator meets Singaporean defense minister
font size

Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo met with Singaporean Minister for Defense Teo Chee Hean in Beijing Wednesday. Wu appreciated Singapore's adherence to the one-China policy.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, told Teo that Sino-Singaporean relations witnessed fast growth along with expanding cooperation in all fields.

The two countries have maintained sound contact and coordination in international and regional affairs, Wu said, noting that all of these have brought about substantial benefits to the two countries and the two peoples.

Teo spoke highly of China's economic and social development, saying China's development will be a "positive factor" in the region and for the world.

With Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's high-profile visit to China in October, China and Singapore are seeking better political relationship commensurate with their close economic ties.

Relations between China and Singapore chilled after Lee's visit to Taiwan as deputy prime minister in July 2004.

Over the past months, China-Singapore ties were repaired gradually with Singapore's repeated promise of adhering to the one-China policy and high-level visits between the two countries.
